The South African National Anthem: Nkosi Sikelel i'Africa (YouTube link)
See 'Nathi at the top? ... the blue fella at the top ... yeah him! He's going to teach you how to sing the first line of the South African National Anthem with the assistance of some of his more colourful friends.
So shall we start?
Lets start with Nkosi N = Nkululeko is 'Nathi's best friend, he's an aspiring graffiti artist. Core= Thandi loves her fruit ... and Pink Lady apples are her favourite! (my fave as well ... I am a sucker for Pink Lady apples) Thandi has eaten the apple specifically to show you it's core Sea = Thandi also can't resist that amazing view of our beautiful coast line ... our coast line is magnificent ... Cape point, Durban ... you name it, our coast line rocks and Thandi knows it
Now onto Sikelel Sick= poor Tony ... he's been sick as a dog, winter is fast approaching and with it comes all sorts of flu's and colds. Tony has been sneezing like mad and that tissue looks well used 'a' lel= YES! This colourful "art work" was created by Nkululeko. He did this a while ago and this little piece of well placed art is what inspired Nathi to organise the sing along!
Almost there! Last is i'Africa. EE= as you can see the florescent sign isn't working too well at Lee's shabeen (a shabeen is like a pub, kind of ish). That dear drunk friend of Nathi's has to hit the side of the shack to get at least the "EE"s working (and that doesn't even last long) "AHHH"= "Malema" Hlophe love's his beer ... he's had a few too many already but can still safely scream "AHHH" as he "delicately" sips from the beer mug Free ... well this is a bit hard to explain ... well the car bit is ... Jeff is a car thief and is being detained in the police station ... or he was being detained before he defied human strength and ripped the bars right off his cell!!! Car bit was an accident! Nathi didn't expect Jeff to break out and steal that awesomely cute car! In fact, Nathi had arranged two white doves to be released from their cage moments before Kgotso drove by in his VW!!!
We're still looking out for Kgotso's car ... but I suspect it's no longer purple and has been sold to a new owner
I hope you enjoyed Nathi's attempt to help you sing the first line of the South African National Anthem ... If you want to hear the anthem and see if you can sing in tune - click here to see the YouTube video (with written lyrics) [link]
So did you click? Did you sing along? Did Nathi's tutoring help you? Did it? Did it?
Quick facts about the anthem: Nkosi Sikelel i'Africa means God Bless Africa Our national anthem is sung in five of South Africas languages: Xhosa (first stanza, first two lines), Zulu (first stanza, last two lines), Sesotho (second stanza), Afrikaans (third stanza) and English (final stanza) It is a hybrid between "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" (a hymn by Enoch Sontonga) and the former anthem and poem "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (The Call of South Africa by C.J. Langenhoven)

so cool to read! boy it'd been a long time since i'd heard Sesotho! had a trip to Lesotho and stayed fora bout a month...really a lot of fun. Even watched the movie "Cry Freedom" there, and when there was a scene that was in Sesotho, with English subtitles for the scene. they said something and everyone laughed, and then silly me laughed after the translation lol
